Coffee that tastes good.
Street Bean Cafe is the social enterprise of New Horizons, a young adult shelter in Downtown Seattle offering services to end homelessness, one young person at a time. At Street Bean, bold coffee fuels real opportunity, offering young people hands-on, paid job training.
Our coffee is roasted to perfection and sourced from farmers who are paid equitably. Profits from our beans are used not only to support Street Bean's apprenticeship program, but also support Kay Tita, an organization dedicated to partnering with young entrepreneurs in Haiti.
Coffee that does good.
In 2009, Street Bean was established to provide supportive employment training for young adults experiencing housing instability in Seattle. The four month Apprenticeship Program was designed with trauma-informed practices and one-on-one engagement at the forefront to meet young people where they are at.
Coffee isn't just about the transfer of goods and services – it's a catalyst for so many other things. Every day, people meet over coffee to discuss business, decide their weekend plans, or to catch up with old friends. Every day, coffee shops are utilized as community spaces to engage with the local culture. The specialty coffee industry itself serves as an avenue for social justice, climate impact awareness, and so much more.
Street Bean's goal is for apprentices to see and experience this side of coffee; And if coffee isn't their thing, apprentices will acquire the soft and hard skills necessary for becoming a strong employee, no matter the industry they pursue.
